"This week’s Website of the Week is the online home of monthly club-night Peppermint Patti at Chapter in Cardiff.
Organised to promote women fronted headline acts plus leftfield & indie music, they describe it as "a safe space for everyone, so you can hold hands with whoever you want and bring ALL your friends"
They give priority to female fronted bands or those with mostly female members, to try and address the imbalance in the music industry, but ANY band playing great music is welcome to come and play an opening set at the club.
It's well worth doing because the venue holds up to 200 people, with excellent sound and comprehensive promotion around Cardiff.
But regardless of whether you're in a band and live near Cardiff, the reason you need this website is the wealth of links to astonishing acts who've been booked to play there…
Caroline Martin, Emily Breeze, Halflight, Silence At Sea, Hooker, Lesbians On Ecstasy, Lianne Hall, Looker, The Stilletoes, Party Weirdo, Vile Vile Creatures, Wet Dog, Wolfie, Look Look (Dancing Boys), Manic Cough, The Physicists, Shrag, King Alexander and old friends such as Sidecar Kisses, The Victorian English Gentlemens Club, Das Wanderlust And The Astonishing Ebony Bones. STOLEN FROM DAS WANDERLUST'S MYSPACE BLOG:
After a lunch of fish and chips (and a brief interview of Daisy for Laura's audio-zine), we set off on the long drive to Cardiff. We nearly get lost but arrive only a little bit late. This is a very impressive set up - proper stage, proper PA, very nice room, and an ace backstage area with mirrors, a fridge full of beer and warm showers make for a very happy band. Soundcheck happens, and then we head off to a local pizzeria for dinner. Charlotte Church once ate in here it would seem from the photographs on the wall.
When we return to the venue we find we've sadly missed the lovely Girl From Headquarters (who were great in Bristol two nights before), but arrive in time to catch most of Male. Male are an ace two-piece it transpires. Andy lends his guitar to Rasha when she breaks a string - that's how much he likes them (he's normally pretty tight when it comes to lending stuff). Laura later learns that Male's drummer is in Big Joan (one of her favourite ever bands) - and is a little star struck!
We're headlining again, and everything's running late so we set up as quickly as we can - and then rip through a very enjoyable set. The crowd here are lovely, amongst the best we've had, and we have a great time on stage. We seem to play quite well, and are even asked to do an encore. We don't really do encores, but its the last night of the tour and the crowd are insistant so we ask them what they'd like to hear again. They would like to hear Puzzle again (a popular choice with us too!), and so we play it again, but a lot louder and deliberately sloppy. " |
